Employment Issues - Did you Know?

Did you know?

·         Every employee must be given a written statement setting out the main terms and conditions of employment within 2 months of starting.  The penalty is up to 4 weeks pay.

·         You cannot alter or vary terms of employment without the consent of the employee.

·         Part Timers must be treated comparably to full timers.  For example, they must receive the same holiday entitlement (but of course pro rata).

·         Employees are only obliged to give you I weeks notice (regardless of the length of service) – unless you state otherwise in your contract with them.

·         If you are planning any redundancy observe the correct procedures to the letter.  You may have decent grounds for redundancy but failure to adopt the correct procedure can result in a claim for unfair dismissal.

·         Employees with children under 6 (or disabled children under 18) have special flexible working rights.
