BADGER'S OPINION

A large and often mountainous country which has developed into an advanced 21st Century democracy. Decent weather and with the long sea journey to Satander/Bilbao, quite a popular option for bikers taking their own bikes and wanting to avoid the long ride through France. Santander and Bilbao are also convenient for South West France.

BORING BITS
Drinking and Driving - Level of alcohol in blood over 0.05% = severe penalties including fines and withdrawal of visitor’s driving licence – drivers with less than two years experience -= 0.03%.
Driving Licence - Motorcycle over 75cc = 18 years.
Fines – On-the-spot – official receipt should be obtained. Illegally parked vehicles may be towed away. Wheel clamps also in operation.
Fuel - Unleaded petrol (95 and 98 octane available). No leaded petrol (but lead substitute additive available). Credit cards accepted at most filling stations – check with card issuer for usage before travelling.
Lights – Dipped headlights during daytime compulsory, but use of full headlights in built up areas is prohibited (crash helmets compulsory only for motorcycles 125cc and over).
Insurance– Third party compulsory.
